The Commission on Radio and Television Policy
"Central and Eastern Europe"

The Commission on Radio and Television Policy "Central and Eastern
Europe" evolved from the original Commission on Radio and Television
Policy, a joint project of the DeWitt
Wallace Center for Communications and Journalism of Duke University
and The Carter Center. The goal of the Commission is to encourage
the development of policies that promote more democratic broadcasting
medias.
Austria´s unique position as a neutral country with ties
to the East and to the West makes it an ideal location for the Commission
meetings.
Subsequent to the last Commission meeting in 1996, The
American Austrian Foundation, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation
(ORF),
The Institute for Central Europe and the Danube Region and the International
Research Center for Cultural Studies agreed to host and organize
The Commission on Radio and Television Policy "Central and Eastern
Europe" in Vienna.
These annual meetings bring together a select group of
Commissioners from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, The
Czech Republic, Hungary, Macedonia, Serbia, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia
and the Ukraine to discuss the issues pertaining media in their countries.
