Pardes, M.D.
Herbert Pardes, M.D., Columbia University's vice president for Health
Sciences, dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and chairman of the Department
of Psychiatry at the College of Physicians & Surgeons, has been
elected president and chief executive officer of NewYork-Presbyterian
Hospital.
Dr. Pardes is a national figure in psychiatry and academic medicine.
He is a graduate analyst of New York Psychoanalytic Institute and also
trained in a Doctor of Medical Science Program as a research fellow.
Dr. Pardes is on the editorial boards of numerous medical and psychiatric
journals and has written over one hundred articles and chapters on diverse
topics in mental health. He has created, conducted and negotiated many
international collaborations, working with governments in India, China,
Egypt, Israel and the former Soviet Union. He has also represented NIMH
and the APA on a regular basis at World Health Organization meetings.
Dr. Pardes has been the recipient of numerous awards for his aggressive
advocacy on behalf of patients and their families.
