Thomas
Q. Morris, M.D.
Thomas Q. Morris, M.D., earned the M.D. degree from the
College of Physicians & Surgeons (P & S) of Columbia University in 1958,
after receiving a B.S. degree magna cum laude from the University of Notre
Dame. He completed his medical residency on the Columbia Medical Division
of Bellevue Hospital and fellowship training in the Department of Medicine
of the College of Physicians & Surgeons (P & S) and the Medical Service
of The Presbyterian Hospital. Subsequently, he has held a number of faculty
and administrative appointments at P & S as Acting Chairman of the Department
of Medicine and acting Director at the Medical Service at The Presbyterian
Hospital in the City of New York, both from 1978 to 1982. From 1982 to
1985, he was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at P & S. On Jnauary
1, 1985 Dr. Morris was appointed President of the Presbyterian Hospital
in the City of New York, a position in which he served until 1990 when
he was appointed Vice President for Programs of The New York Academy of
Medicine. In 1994, he returned to P& S as Vice Dean of the Faculty of
Medicine and Senior Associate Vice Presitdent for Health Sciences. He
continues to serve the Academy as Senior Advisor. On January 3, 2000,
Dr. Morris was appointed Interim Dean for Clinical and Educational Affairs.
At the March 2000 meeting of the Columbia Trustees, Dr. Morris was appointed
Alumni Professor of Clinical Medicine. He currently serves as Vice President
for Health Sciences and Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs.
Dr. Morris is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Mary
Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, New York, and Vice Chair of the
American University of Beirut. He was a Director of the Greater New York
Hospital Association, and Chairman of VHA Metro New York. Dr. Morris chaired
the Quality of Care Task Force of the Hospital Association of New York
State. He was a member of the New York State Department of Health Commission
on Graduate Medical Education, and was appointed by Governor Cuomo to
serve on the New York State Council on Graduate Medical Education. Dr.
Morris also was appointed to the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical
Education and the New York City Mayoral AIDS Task Force. He also serves
on the New York State Health Research Council's Advisory Panel on Primary
Physicians.
