Purpose

To expose American medical students to medical practices in Austria by rotating through a specific department at the University Hospital of Vienna and/or the Salzburg General Hospital.

Eligibility

U.S. 4th grade medical students.

Details

The AAF provides travel stipend and accommodation.

Clinical Clerkships at the University of Vienna or Salzburg

Duration: four weeks

Clerkships will be offered in the following areas, based upon availability: Anesthesiology, Cancer Treatment, Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Childhood Obesity, Critical Care, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, ENT, Gastroenterology, General Pediatrics, HIV, Hygiene & Clinical Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Major Depressive Disorder, Mammography/Radiology, Medical Computer Science, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Obestetrics and Gynecology, Opththalmology, Orthopedics, Otorhinolaryngology, Pathology, Pediatric Endocrinology, Pediatric Oncology, Pediatrics, Plastic Surgery, Psychatry, Pathology, Public Health, Radiology, Radiotherapy & Oncology, Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery, STD’s, Surgery, Trauma Surgery, Traumatology, Tumor Biology, Urology.


The AAF Max Kade Clinical Clerkships in the USA

Purpose

To expose Austrian medical students to medical practices in the U.S., allowing them to gain experience in a different health care environment.

Eligibility

Austrian medical students in their final year of study.

Details

The AAF will match students with the appropriate department and institution. Students must fulfill each institutions specific requirements. Fluency in English is required!

The AAF provides a travel stipend only. All other expenses are the fellow's responsibilities.

Clinical Clerkships are offered at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and its affiliated hospitals in New York City, The George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Clinical Clerkships at The George Washington University Medical Center, George Washington University Hospital, School of Medicine and Health Sciences

Duration: four to eight weeks

Clerkships will be offered in the following areas, based upon availability: Medicine and Subspecialties; Pediatrics and Subspecialties; Family practice; Anesthesiology; Emergency Medicine; Clinical Neuroscience; Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynecology; Surgery and Surgical specialties; Urology.

Students will be assigned a faculty mentor for the duration of the clerkship, who will provide a written evaluation of the student's performance. This evaluation will be used by the student's home university to determine whether credit will be offered.
