How to Apply

Eligibility

  • Salzburg Medical Seminars International Alumni
  • Employment as a Medical Doctor
  • Fluency in English
  • German language skills are recommended

Fellows can attend a total of 3 observership months, but only in one month periods: after you have attended your first Salzburg Medical Seminar you can apply for your first observership. After you have attended your first observership you can apply for your second observership. After the second observership you can apply for you third and final observership.

Application Process

Please send the application form and requested documents via email to observership@openmedicalinstitute.org. Before you apply, check the List of Medical Specialties offered for the OMI Observership.

Your Observership application must include the following documents:

  • completed application form (see downloads below)
  • a copy of your medical license
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) with a recent photo (photo size 2 x 2 inch or 3.5 x 4.5 cm)
  • a short essay stating your interest and aims for the observership
  • a letter of recommendation signed by a senior faculty member who works with you
  • a letter of invitation (this is not obligatory): if you have received a letter of invitation from your Austrian mentor, please include this in your application.

If any of these documents are missing, your application is incomplete and will not be considered. Please follow the instructions carefully and save the confirmation email which will be sent to you once the AAF has received and checked your application – it means that you are on the waiting list for an observership. You will be informed by the AAF team as soon as there is a place available. Waiting time is usually between 1 and 3 years.

Details

The OMI Observership covers travel and accommodation and provides pocket money for the duration of the stay (for detailed information download "Travel & Reimbursement Guidelines" below).

Please note
: Travel expenses for the third observership must be covered by the fellow. Observers must submit a comprehensive Final Report and a Case Study at the conclusion of each observership.

We offer observerships in the following hospitals in Austria:
in Vienna: Allgemeines Krankenhaus - Universitätskliniken (AKH); Krankenhaus Hietzing; Krankenanstalt Rudolfstiftung; Donau Spital; Kaiser Franz Josef Spital; Wilhelminenspital.
