Ingrid Haimböck

Ingrid Haimböck was born in Vienna and grew up speaking three languages (French, Italian and German) and is a trained translator and interpreter. For eight years she has been constantly seeking creative talents and new projects in keeping with Herbert von Karajan’s spiritual and artistic legacy.

One of Ingrid Haimböck’s main concerns is the cooperation with children as well as entire school classes in addition to their regular musical education. Children are invited, mostly free of charge, to participate in workshops, operatic afternoons and sound experiments. The Baschet-instruments, developed by the French Baschet brothers and brought to the Herbert von Karajan Centrum by Ingrid Haimböck herself, allow for an unusual and creative approach to the world of music.

After passing her high school exam at the Lycée Francais in 1980, she studied French and Italian at the Vienna University Institute for Translators and Interpreters. During this time she was also active in the organisation of several international congresses, symposia and trade fairs, before gaining her first experiences on film-sets in 1986. Her domain ranged from assistant director and text coach to the translation of film-scripts. Among others she worked with directors such as Peter Patzak, Paulus Manker, Gernot Friedel, Peter Weck, Karin Brandauer and Michael Glawogger. Experiences which are beneficial to the Herbert von Karajan Centrum Music Productions, the Centrum’s own film production company. From the film business Ingrid Haimböck moved on to Salzburg, where she worked as executive producer for director Gernot Friedel in his 1990 production of ‘Jedermann’ at the Salzburg Festival.

After intensive talks with Prof. Dr. Uli Märkle (general manager of the Télémondial S.A.M.) and Dr. Werner Kupper (president of the Herbert von Karajan Foundation) in 1994, Ingrid Haimböck was commissioned with establishing the Herbert von Karajan Centrum.
