Open Medical Institute (OMI) is a program of the American Austrian Foundation (AAF) whose main goal is to educate physicians and health care providers from countries in transition and foster their professional growth.
FAR FAA is a non-for-profit organization of medical professionals, aimed at improving the health care system of the community and advancing medical sciences in Armenia.
The symposium took place in the Red Conference Hall of the Yerevan State Medical University. More than 200 cardiologists from different hospitals in Armenia, from the capital and the provinces attended.
The new Dean of the Yerevan State Medical University, Prof. Gohar Kyalyan welcomed the Faculty and the Participants of the Symposium. Prof. Stephen Scheidt and Prof. Kenneth Stein from Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York, USA led the symposium.
Stephen Scheidt, M.D. is Professor of Clinical Medicine and Director
of the Cardiology Training Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill
Cornell Medical Center in New York City. An internationally known
cardiologist, he has served as President of the New York Cardiological
Society, as the New York Governor of the American College of Cardiology,
and as Vice-President of the American Heart Association.
Dr Kenneth Stein is a Cardiac Electrophysiologist and Associate Professor of
Medicine at the Weill Medical Center of Cornell University. He is the Associate
Director of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at The New York Presbyterian
Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr Stein is a respected author and
lecturer on cardiac resynchronization therapy for heart failure, ventricular
tachicyardia and sudden cardiac death, and atrial tachycardia.
The lectures were dedicated to Angina 2006, Update on Atrial Fibrillation, Modern Therapy of Congestive Heart Failure, Electrophysiological Treatment of Supraventricular Arrhythmias, Sudden Coronary Death and, Pre-operative clearances for non–cardiac surgery.
Armenian cardiologists presented six cases, which were followed by an lively discussion. The goal of the symposium was to present the latest information, the experience and knowledge of the international faculty members to Armenian doctors.

We hope that OMI Satellite Symposia program will be continued in the future and help enhance the professional level of local specialists through the gained theoretical knowledge and discussions.
