John J. Caronna, M.D. is the Louis and Gertrude Feil Professor of Clinical
Neurology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and is the
Vice-Chairman of The Department of Neurology and Neuroscience at The
New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. He received his
M.D. from Cornell University Medical College. He trained in internal
medicine and neurology at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.
He then did research fellowships at St. Thomas'Hospital Medical School
in London and The Brain Research Laboratory University of Lund, Sweden.
Dr. Caronna was Associate Professor of Neurology at The University of
California San Francisco General Hospital prior to assuming his position
as a Professor at Cornell Medical Center. He has published over one
hundred original papers, reviews, and book chapters in the field of
neurology. His major interests are the prognostications of coma and
the neurological outcome of cardiac arrest and stroke. Dr. Caronna is
a Fellow of the Stroke Council of the American Heart Association, a
Fellow of The American Academy of neurology, and a Senior Examiner for
The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has been a Course
Director for the Cornell-Salzburg Seminars since 1994.
