Cynthia Sculco, RN, Ed.D
Cynthia Sculco received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
from the University of Rhode Island. She has her M.Ed. and Ed. D. from
Teachers College, Columbia University. She is presently an adjunct
associate professor of nursing in the graduate program at New York
University College of Nursing.
Dr. Cynthia Sculco has been involved in nursing education for over
twenty five years. She has taught at Cornell University School of Nursing,
Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and Hunter College Bellvue
School of Nursing where she spent over fifteen years. In addition to
teaching in America, Dr. Sculco was a sister tutor at the Princess
Alexandria School of Nursing in London, England. During the majority
of her career Dr. Sculco has focused upon graduate education and the
advanced practice role of nursing.
Besides teaching, Dr. Sculco is very involved in not-for-profit organizations
that support nursing education. She is President of Nurses Educational
Funds, a national organization which provides scholarships for graduate
education in nursing and was the past chairperson of the Long Range
Planning and Development Committee which is committed to raising funds
for scholarships for the future leaders of nursing.
Dr. Sculco is also a member of the Teachers College Alumni Council
and a trustee of the University of Rhode Island Foundation. In addition
Dr. Sculco has been a member of the education committee of the National
Association of Clinical Nurse Specialist. Dr. Sculco has published
in a variety of areas the latest focuses on the importance of how to
write educational objectives. She is very interested in teaching strategies
focusing upon the role of the advanced practice nurse.
Dr. Sculco has received numerous awards including the distinguished
Dorothy McMullen Pissani service award from the Southern New York League
for Nursing. She has also received the outstanding graduate award from
the University of Rhode Island. In addition Dr. Sculco was honored
by the Nurses Education Alumni Association of Teachers College with
the Leadership and Allied Organizations Award.
Dr. Sculco and her husband Dr. Thomas Sculco are supporters of the
arts as well as health care. They have two children and live in New
York City.
