The Ansbacher Fellowship for Young Conductors
This fellowship provides young and promising conductors from the United States the opportunity to attend rehearsals at the Salzburg Music Festival for up to four weeks observing the world’s leading conductors and artists at work. The chance to observe and actually meet the maestros is an unforgettable experience for any young conductor. The 2009 fellows were also able to attend lectures given by the Salzburg Festival Society during their stay.
The Salzburg Festival (“Salzburger Festspiele”), founded in August 1920 by Max Reinhard and Hugo von Hofmansthal, is the benchmark for all festivals worldwide and each year unique opera and concert productions bring the world’s finest singers, conductors and musicians together.
“The biggest influence is having a better feeling and ‘new ears’ for the music of Gustav Mahler, Johann Strauss and Anton Bruckner…I drank coffee at a café frequented by Strauss. I listened to the organ that Bruckner played. I was able to see the mountains, lakes and people that inspired Mahler.”
Dan Allcott, Conductor, former Ansbacher Fellow
